Bill, beautifully written, as always, and especially meaningful to all of us "kids of the guys (and gals) who fought in WW II".... Thanks for the little extra on Bob Hope. I have so many memories of watching him on TV with my parents.

Lisa, thank you. Hope you're having a meaningful Memorial Day. Did your dad ever see him entertain? I don't think my dad did, although they did have comedian Joe E. Brown on a USO stage at their camp near Naples.

I don't think so, although I don't remember. My dad was a bomber pilot, so flew out of a base or bases in England I'm pretty sure, so wasn't in areas near fronts where large numbers of soldiers were gathered. But he sure loved Bob Hope.
